SCI Huntingdon prison employee charged for having sexual relationship with inmate

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections says an employee at SCI Huntingdon is facing charges after being caught on video engaging in sexual acts with an inmate.

Authorities say 52-year-old Kimberly Danfelt, of Mapleton Depot, is charged with one felony count of institutional sexual assault, according to online court documents.

Officials say Danfelt, who worked as a "garment factory foreman," was under investigation after authorities suspected her and a male inmate of smuggling contraband into the prison.

Authorities say multiple cameras were installed to catch the supposed contraband but a review of the footage instead showed the two kissing, hugging and engaging in numerous sexual acts.

Officials say in early May they confronted the inmate about the footage who admitted that he and Danfelt were involved in a "romantic relationship."

Authorities say they also questioned Danfelt, who admitted to engaging in numerous sexual acts with the inmate over a 6-month period.

Danfelt was arraigned Monday afternoon and was released on unsecured $50,000 bail, court dockets show.

According to a statement from the Huntingdon County District Attorney's office, the case will be prosecuted by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.

Danfelt's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 29.
